
You know what I love about Jesus? He doesn’t give gifts according to what we DESERVE.
We are all sinners and we don’t deserve any of the good gifts that he offers us, yet he gives them because he GENUINELY LOVES us.
I was once working alongside a woman that I was ministering to whom was trying to get on her feet. If I were to be honest, I would tell you that the way she was going about this process was something that I was judging. I had my opinions about it all, and I kept them nicely tucked away inside.
Bad decisions are all I could see without any understanding or grace on my part. I think my desires to help her were somewhat founded in selfishness. I knew that she needed help but rather than doing so out of love, it felt like more of an obligation.
She was running low on money at one point and although I felt that she had options, I offered to buy her dinner and have it delivered to her. At the time we were very budgeted with our finances. I didn’t have the extra means to send her food, but wanted to help or felt a responsibility to do so.
When I asked her what entree she wanted from Chilis, she told me that she would like a cheeseburger meal with fries and also a molten chocolate cake. I was extremely annoyed that she asked for the chocolate cake.
Here I was doing something for her, and she asked for EXTRA.
I was moments away from telling her that I would not be getting her the molten chocolate cake, as our budget was too tight for the add-on, when I heard very clearly from Holy Spirit..
Buy my daughter the molten chocolate cake.
I was undone.
God was humbling me, while simultaneously letting me FEEL his immense love for this woman. His love wasn’t offered to her in accordance with her good deeds or satisfactory decisions.
He just loved her, because she is his daughter.
Lamentations 3:22-23 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
